Yesterday Terry and I, along with two of our ex-offender students, Vusi (left) and Zama (right) were privileged to attend the screening of a documentary entitled "Mandela's Miracle" hosted by the Cape Film Commission.
The Western Cape Premiere Helen Zille and Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille attended the auspicious occassion. Through an amazing turn of events we met both of them personally and briefly shared about the work that we are doing with offenders and ex-offenders. Without hesitation, Helen Zille stepped forward to greet our ex-offender students and to their delight offered to pose for a picture. For me it was one of life's embarrassing moments as I battled to take the pic with Zama's camera phone!
After waiting very patiently, Mrs. Zille amusing stated, "Didn't you just tell me you were training these guys to take the shots!" We all had a good laugh and fortunately a photographer was on hand to get this shot.
Although held on Nelson Mandela's birthday, a very nervous Vuzi, who had never before attended a red carpet event and was in awe of the proceedings, said " I feel like it is my birthday!" |
