Television Division of Prison Broadcasting Network
Skills Development in Television Production
Training in television production is probably one of the most exciting skills ever to be taught behind bars. It offers real opportunities for employment in this exciting field and unleashes untapped creativity.
Our Television Division was launched in January 2008 when we enrolled our first intake of TELEVISION PRODUCTION offender students. Skills taught include: script-writing for TV; camerawork; lighting techniques; location sound; video editing; host presenting and directing.
We currently produce two television series, "NEW DAY" and "JAIL STAR!"
Our "NEW DAY" series focuses on RELEVANT and POSITIVE aspects of individual offender's and Correctional Officer's lives in order to encourage the inmate viewers to take an active role in their own rehabilitation.
Our "JAIL STAR!" series received global publicity recently and we are still inundated with radio, television and newspaper interviews. It's a talent contest for offenders and judged by both offenders and Correctional Officers. A full write-up of both our series is available here.
We are currently the only organisation in South Africa that is permitted to use broadcast video cameras in Correctional Centres on a daily basis.
